Dr. Channing Der was honored as this year’s Emmanuel Farber Distinguished Visiting Lecturer. This special talk is a part of the University of Toronto Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology weekly seminar. Dr. Der spoke about Targeting RAS for cancer treatment. History of the Farber Distinguished Visiting Lecture
A dedicated pathologist, biochemist, and educator, Professor Emeritus Emmanuel Farber was a pioneer in cancer research and a world-renowned experimental pathologist. Throughout his career, he trained and mentored students who went on to become exceptional academic pathologists, with several of his trainees becoming Chairs of Pathology across North America. Since he was a major proponent of hypothesis-based experimental research, his favorite saying was “Show me!” – and students and faculty members alike had to respond to this call for conclusions based on solid experimental data.
Dr. Farber was the Chair of U of T’s Department of Pathology from 1975 to 1986 and left a lasting legacy in the Department and the entire Faculty of Medicine. In memory of Dr. Farber, the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, along with family, friends, former trainees, and colleagues, is establishing the Farber Distinguished Visiting Lecture. The funds from this lectureship will allow us to invite an esteemed lecturer to the University of Toronto and provide our students with the opportunity to interact with and learn from some of the very best in the world.
